CanberraSkin Needling

Body Therapy

Collagen Induction Therapy / Skin Needling

The Procedure

The skin is anesthetized with a topical anesthetic which takes full effect in 45 minutes. Once the skin is anaesthetised, the clinician passes the Dermaroller over the skin which takes around 20-25 minutes (face). The needles reach just below the epidermis and the body's natual healing response results in an instantaneous reaction which stimulates fibroblasts, collagen, and the release of growth factors at the puncture site.  The skin reddens and swells immediately after the treatment with a moderate flush which is similar to mild sunburn.  This will normally subside significantly after 1 to 2 hours, with only slight redness for the next 2-3 days.  Redness is usually easily covered with a light mineral makeup, and clients are often back at work the next day.  The clinician will recommend post procedure skin care to maximise results, and to help soothe, calm and protect the skin.

Collagen and elastin will continuously build and the skin will regenerate and tighten up.   To achieve the best possible results, we recommend an initial treatment cycle of 2 to 3 treatments. As the new collagen formation needs time to mature, an interval of 6 weeks is best before the next  treatment. As your skin continues to age an annual refresher could be considered.  Suggestions to prepare your skin, and for optimal results from your treatment are listed on our booking a treatment page.

Please note that while the majority of our clients have positive results we cannot legally or otherwise guarantee individual outcomes.

If you have any of the following skin conditions or diseases please discuss this with the clinician prior to treatment : Psoriasis, Skin Cancer, *Herpes Simplex (cold sores), Acne, dermatitis/excema, raised warts or moles, ringworm/tinea, keloidal scarring.

* Patients with a history of cold sores may experience a flare up and should take a Lysine preparation prior to treatment.

After treatment, the following guidelines for home care should be followed...

CLEAN - Use a soothing cleanser / face wash with tepid water to cleanse the face for the following 48 hours and dry gently. Always make sure your hands are clean when touching the treated area.

HEAL – Copper based skincare is recommended as the mineral properties are perfect to help heal the skin but will also create a sterile skin too.

HYDRATE - Following your Dermaroller™ treatment, the skin may feel drier than normal. Hyaluronic Acid is an ideal ingredient to hydrate and restore the skin back to a perfect balance.

STIMULATE - As the skin starts to regenerate, collagen stimulating peptides are ideal to keep the stimulation going.

MAKE-UP - It is recommended that make up is not applied for 12 hours after the procedure.  Mineral makeup is recommended for the first few days hours after treatement.  Avoid applying make up with a make-up brush, especially if it is not clean.

PROTECT - For 5-7 days after the procedure apply a broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen with a SPF30. A chemical free sunscreen is highly recommended.

To ensure the right healing environment, for at least 2 days post treatment, do NOT use any Alpha-Hydroxy Acids, Beta-Hydroxy Acid, Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C (in a low pH formula) or anything perceived as 'active' skincare.

We would like to emphasise that skin needling is a medical procedure and should only be performed by trained and licensed skin care professionals.
